Mr. Mason:
Just re-read your book: "Chickenhawk" for the second time. You're something else!
You've got to have some of the biggest cahone's in the world! I was an Air Force puke stateside when you were risking it all day after day in Viet Nam. You're an American Hero of the highest degree!
God bless you and all those amazing American Viet Nam vets that gave their 'all' to an indifferent Government and a hostile populance that really didn't understand.

I just read Chickenhawk and had an "Oh My God" moment. My husband,(1st Cav. D 2/5) air assaulted from LZ Victor to LZ XRay, morning of Nov 15, 65 after the "Broken Arrow". He tried in vain to find the slick pilots who flew them. He always said name was "Preacher"; so it must have been your company that flew the 2/5 mortar platoons and recon into hot LZ at XRay. I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Great book. Helped me understand what he had experienced.

Mr Mason,
My profound thanks and gratefulness to you for your service. I feel like a novice here with my first read of your first book. But I enjoyed the experience, gripping the controls and operating the foot pedals with you. Kudos to your writing skills and memories of the action. I look forward to reading more about your life progression. Wishing you continued success and smooth air. ~Gary

I've lost count of the number of times I've read this book. I wish they make a film out of it!

Sitting in our V.F.W. post 10980 I was having a conversation
With our Commander which led to your book, I was advised
to read it. I would like to tell you that it was the most
compelling story I have read to date. My hat goes off to you
Sir. May God Bless you and your family. Also best wishes
from Post 10980.

Great read! The French do not really talk about their war in Indo-China nor to the British go into detail about Guerilla warfare in their own back yard.
Need less to say your life 'in-country' brings the idea of flying a slick a whole new meaning. Up the road from me, EADS makes the modern 'copters for our governments and rich kids to play with.
Guess you can never beat a good book and coffee?

Mr. Mason,
I have just finished "Chickenhawk" again and
immediately started rereading "Back in the world".
Your
books are entertaining, compelling, inspiring and
you are one of the most under appreciated writers.
Again I have to request, perhaps there might be one
last followup to be done to follow "back in the world"? I
for one would be eager to read it! You have the gift of
telling stories in a unique way like no other authors
style.

Kindest regards, Marc

I just finished "Chickenhawk" today. I have read hundreds of war memoirs. This is my favorite. I had a personal interest in your story since I graduated from Fort Rucker School for Flight Operation Specialist in Feb. 1965. I was never sent to Viet Nam and always wondered what that experience would be like. Now I know exactly since your time served there was the same time I was sent elsewhere. Thank you .

I’ve just finished reading Chickenhawk on the Kindle and wanted to say how much I appreciate your book. I will read the sequel as I hope this will enable me to tie up some loose ends about your life (I wish you a happy one). I admire your resolve about being treated so poorly by people who judged you superficially upon your return home. It must have been awful with all those memories of friends who gave their lives, only to learn of the lack of appreciation in some people’s minds. Thank you.

Just re-read your book a couple of weeks ago and still find it fascinating. I was a 67N in the mid to late 80's when I first read it. I was in the reserve in that capacity. I also read General Moore's book and saw the movie. Question: I had a friend - Jim Brewster - who was a pilot in the 1st Cav and he mentioned Ia Drang to me once. Haven't seen him since '66. Did you ever run into him? Thanks and good health to you.

Sir,

I have read your book many times. I just listened to it on audio book. A different experience. But the whole experience was incredible. One of my favorites. My wife actually read it & communicated with Patience at one point! My most sincere congrulations for what you went through & what you have written. You are one of the good ones.

Sincerely,

Ian A. Fraser

Mr. Mason,
I've read your book Chickhawk several
times. Your book, your life, and your writing
style is absolutely wonderful. I grew up as
a teenager during the Vietnam war. I
remember the daily news clips and
thousands of articles about the war
between 1967-1973. Your personal
experiences and the manner of your writing
brings everything to life. Thank you for your
courage and services to our country. And
thank you for such a wonderful book.
