Mr Mason

I am just rereading Chickenhawk for the fourth time in twenty years.

It should be compulsary reading for every body at the Pentagon.

The first ime I read it I learnt about the the helicopter.

The second time it was the horror of war.

The third time II understood why War Vets need to be treated for disorders all their life.

The forth time and I understand what is/has going/gone on in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

Just finished Chickenhawk for the 2nd time and decided to google for Bob Mason- looking forward to getting your followup as I did not know it existed. Probably 30% of my reading through the years has been Vietnam related - your book is one of many which has given me my outlook on war, peace and politics- part of my permanent collection - grateful to you and others who undertake the effort. John

I first read Chickenhawk 25 yrs ago. It moved me to the point
that I visited the local Army recruiter and I inquired about the
WOC program. Although I was too old, for the Army, I never
forgot the the your experiences and recently read the latest
edition. Chickenhawk, Night Stalkers and In the Company of
Heroes sit side by side on my bookshelf.

I read your book for the second time. I get a guilty feeling because i was a crew chief for Headquarters company II field Force in Long Binh and we flew ash & trash only in an older B model without armour plating and only our personnal weapons for defense. I only had a couple of close calls during my tour and i feel like i didn't do my share as you did. This haunts me to this day

Chickenhawk was recommended by a freind. I have an interest in the technical aspects of helicopters and fly, well hover really, radio controlled models.
Your writing placed me right there beside you in the cockpit, very well written.
From the last section of your 2005 edition it seems that you wanted to fly more but had trouble funding it, I hope this has changed for you since then as you seem, from your writing, to be truly alive when you fly - this is what you deserve

First read your book ChickenHawk while I was stationed on Vancouver Island. I felt then that after your detailed instructions I could fly a helicopter. I,ve been hooked ever since . Spent a lot of time in helicopters, however just as a passenger. Every few years I dig out your book and reread it and seems like the first read. Totally captivating. Congratulations for your dedicated Service.

I finished reading your book last night and want to thank you for writing it. I have a love for helicopters and your book made me feel as though I was right there with you the whole time. It was easy to picture everything you described in my head. There was nothing about the book I did not like. Congratulations on your success and I hope you are doing well.

Here's my tribute to Chickenhawk on my BLOG. As a veteran I want to thank you for writing Chickenhawk, it really inspired me to go for my dreams and fly helicopters. I've read the book about 3 or 4 times over the past 15 years.
