Hi, a pilot friend of mine has lent me his copy of Chickenhawk as I am interested in helicopters. He said it was the best book for information about how the controls work as well as an account of the vietnam conflict. I am halfway through and he was right. The book is informative, gripping and well written. Thank you for the facinating helicopter info and your honest account of of your time in vietnam. Will continue reading now, hope you are well, all the best.

Dear Mr. Mason,

I am a low hour (500) commercial helicopter pilot and once I started reading Chickenhawk I couldn't put it down, finished it at 4am last night. Thank you for your service and for the amazing insight into Vietnam. Not to mention all of the great flying stories and advice that is still saving lives today. I hope life is treating you well. If you ever find yourself in Port Charlotte, Fl your dinner is free!

I first started reading Chickenhawk as it
was being passed around a mock FOB on
Fort Benning during some training for new
officers in 2006, but unfortunately didn't get
to finish. The aviators were bunched in with
us during the training and all loved the book
. Fast forward through one 15
monther to Iraq and I finallyran across
another copy. Great book and very
encouraging for a new generation of Vets.
There is a new generation of Army Officer
that is proud of your service.

Since watching the Vietnam War on the news when a child, I have always been fascinated by it. Your book is the most honest, thought provoking book I have ever read on the war. Your words allow the reader an insight into just how awful war can be and the consequences to all involved. I wish you well.

I first read Chickenhawk about 17 years ago. It's a truly awesome book.
I must have re-read it about a hundred times. Seriously. Just a great story.

All the best to you Bob.

Hi Bob, just read Chickenhawk again after maybe 10 years. I was there with you and the guys again, the kerosene, the vibration, the dust, the death. Heartfelt thanks to you and everyone who puts into words what war is, so that we know what it is, and we know that we can't let it keep happening.

Robert:
Just read Chickenhawk. I was with D Troop, 229th in Bien Hoa then transferred to H/17, First Aviation Brigade, Pleiku to Feb 73. So, was there when peace treaty was signed and war ended. Was a huey & cobra rotor blade repairmen, then a doorgunner on a slick. Flew missions around Kontum a lot. So strange reading about your tour from a pilots perspective. The end Chickenhawk is so sad. Hope life was/is better for you these days. God bless.
