Mr Mason,

As one of the last Huey pilots left in the Army I wanted to thank you for such an amazing book. Not only has it been a great read, but as a young CW2 flying the Huey, it is also quite informational!!! Moreover, I was shocked to find out that I fly one of the Hueys from your book. 702 is in our fleet at Ft. Irwin. Regardless, I just wanted tell you that at least until 2011, your beloved Huey will fly on with us.

Mr. Mason, I have read piles of books and can easily say that 'Chickenhawk' is the best non-fiction read of them all. Your telling is brilliant. I am sorry that any person had/has to endure the trials of war but your telling has given your readers a window into what it was like and that will stick in my mind until my time is up. Thanks for writing it.

Mr. Mason,

I have read CHICKENHAWK many times and find it an amazing read every time. My pastor as a kid (Ken Dowdy) who was also a Huey pilot in Vietnam referenced me to your story. May God bless you and your family for your courage during and after those horrific experiences. I hope you have found piece and happiness in your life.

Kind regards,
Timothy M. Roloff

As a retired career serviceman I first read your book 25 years ago and found it to be superb. After a full career in the British Army it is still a superb read and stands alongside Once a Warrior King as the 2 most iconic books about the Vietnam War. One of the few books I can read over and over again.

Thank you for the outstanding book (Chickenhawk) and for the illustrations of your experiences. It makes me proud and inspired to learn of people taking a FUBAR situation and making the best of it.

I hope all people can find inner-peace and equality within to defeat their traumas, fear and frustrations in life.

Dear Robert,
To have done all of that and seen all of that and survived all of it. What an extraordinary life! I would say truly heroic.
Hope you're well.

Just finished Chickenhawk a few minutes ago, for the 3rd time. I use it as part of the curriculum in a military history class at Prosser High School. Your book and Layne Heath's CW2 are perhaps the best books in print on Vietnam, in my humble opinion. Just wanted to say thank you.

Picked Chickenhawk up yesterday in a local shop. I have not left the house today, only eaten once, left the phone off the hook...its an enthralling book. I am now listening to your good Lady wife discuss your PTSD on notalone.com...very moving. You, sir, and your wife are both very brave. My respect to you both.

My boyfriend read chickenhawk and couldn't put it down. His dream is to be a Helicopter Pilot and he is going to accomplish it. Chickenhawk seemed to light a spark in his eye, the courage and humanity represented in Chickenhawk is amazing and the knowledge of flying helicopters has him spellbound. Thank you so much Robert Mason for sharing your story with the world but most of all my boyfriend. His dreams will come true. Thank you.

Mr. Mason, I have enjoyed every book you have written and am curious if there is another in the works? I loved both of your autobiographies and have read, reread and loaned out all of your books to friends and family alike; and have only gotten positive feedback. Thank you.

I just devoured 'Chickenhawk' in only a few sittings. Thanks for telling your story - wish I had read it years ago.
