Mr. Mason,
I recently finished your book Chickenhawk and was very moved by your experiences in combat. I'm a young AF Huey pilot and am privelaged to carry on the proud heritage of military helo pilots such as yourself and the men you served with in Vietnam. I want to extend my thanks for your service and my regret that the country you returned to in 1966 could not reflect the gratitude and respect that you and your fellow soldiers deserved. My deepest respect,
Lt. Welt

Dear Mr Mason
I am honored to have the oportunity to write to you today, I am a helicopter (Huey) fanatic . I am busy with my helicopter licence. I completed my fixed wing ppl licence in 2002. I have read Chickenhawk several times and for the first time today I had a look at your website and was highly intrigued to see pictures of the people and places you mention in your book. I have flown in Hueys from the Vietnam era operating as fire fighting ships.
Hats off to you sir, go well !!!

Hope isn't too strange a question, but did you ever write
a book of poetry? I spent time in Africa as a young
man and was given a book of poems, that I could have sworn
was yours? I'm having trouble remembering the exact
details I do remember being moved by the poetry, particularly
as I was at the time working with survivors of the Rwandan
genocide at the time of reading. Apologies if I'm barking up the
wrong tree.

Having been stationed with the 478th Crane Unit in An Khe in 1967, I found Mason's narrative extremely facinating. It brought back old memories I thought were long gone. I have read the book several times and keep a copy for future reference. This the best narrative on the Viet Nam air war that I have read. Thanks Mason for your service to this Country and may the years going forward be kind.

I read ChickenHawk when I was 16 years old (I am now 3 and I was in awe of your account of war from your very personal experience and I am still very much in awe today. ChickenHawk shocked, surprised, entertained and educated me and there are very few books in my library that I have read more than twice, in fact I have read your book at least 10 times over the years.

Hi! I wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed reading your book. It was fascinating to read about a war that I'd never fully appreciated. Since I read it I've even considered joining the RAF! I liked your photos, there really interesting. I'm into photography myself. I want to thank you for writing Chickenhawk. Its a great book and I learnt a lot from it. I am genuinely sorry for what the war did to your life, and the lives of all the other veterans.

Hope you are well.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for being an inspiration.
We all fall but we are blessed to realize that we are not alone and that we may draw strength from the courage and sacrifice of others such as yourself!
As an aspiring helicopter pilot you have set a standard by which I can measure myself and strive towards continuously.

I salute you Sir!

To us the privilege, to Yahushua all the glory!

As an ex grunt myself with Her Majestys forces, i have to say your account of your tour in Vietnam is superb. But i am sorry that it took these events for you to write such a fantastic read.

Dear Sir, I read your book in '84 primarily to understand more about the war and those who served. My Dad and three of my Uncles served over there, they didn't talk about the war, but their silence said it all. I Thank you, as well as the many others who have chosen to write about your experiences. You helped me to understand my Dad ,my Uncles, and other Vets just a little more. I Thank you for serving our Country and I think my old unit crest says it all, VINCENT VERBUM, my friend.

I read Chickenhawk when it was first published in the UK in 84
(No pictures) and have just re-read it. It is still as inspirational as
the first time and I salute you for all you did and suffered.
How about adding a blog/summary/update to the site so we
know how you are today - very well I hope.
