I read Chickenhawk when it was first published in the UK in 84
(No pictures) and have just re-read it. It is still as inspirational as
the first time and I salute you for all you did and suffered.
How about adding a blog/summary/update to the site so we
know how you are today - very well I hope.

I had not been able to read anything about Viet
Nam until only recently. I stumbled on your
book Chicken Hawk and bought it. I liked it so
much, I had to read Back in the World. I just
finished that. Thanks for your service, and thanks
for putting your story in print, for people to see what it was like to be in that war.

Fantastic book, definitely the best I've read on the subject! You've given me a lot to work on for scale flying (I fly rc model helicopters). I'm definitely going to have to get hold of your other books! Take care - Jon Chatham

I was one of your students and I loved all of your books. I lost my copy of Chickenhawk you signed for me. I was talking with Gary Lineberry today and hope to see you next year at VHPA in San Diego. If you have time, drop me a line.

Mr. Mason,
I just finished reading Chickenhawk for the second time and wanted to drop you a line. First off, Thanks for your service to our company and second for writing about your life as remembered. My dad was in the AF for 4 years in the early 60's and I wasn't ever in the armed forces. Thanks again for a great book, I hope you realize what a good job you've done.

Larry

Mr Mason - thanks for your books and stories... have read them many times. I am a retired WO and have flown (and still flying) many different helicopters, but the Huey is still my all time favorite... truly a first love affair. Thanks again.

Neil Cutten neilcutten@aapt.net.au Australia

Bob,
I had the chance back in 1971 to learn to fly helicopters when I was in the Australian Navy. I wanted jets. Now, at age 56, I'm learning to fly helicopters after a long time as a Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor.
Great book. I am writing a book about helicopter flying, reciting stories from pilots, instructors etc so that anyone who wishes to consider a career as a helicopter pilot can get an idea of what life as a line pilot can really be like.

Bob,
My son just recently gave me Chickenhawk. He was a Cav Scout and one of the first into Baghdad. My Dad was in WWII with Patton and got the Bronze Star in Korea. I was Signal Corp from '67-'71 and only know of combat from men like them and you. I have my father's Hamilton watch in front of me as I type this.

With immense respect, I offer my hardy handshake.

Larry

Robert,
I was just given your book by the wife of an ex-marine friend of mine after he passed away. I was a door gunner on a Huey in 1968. Made it through Tet, and haven't thought much about Vietnam since, until I read your book. Got reassigned to Germany, served on Garmisch ski patrol (being a door gunner survivor had perks). I'm now an architect and starting to think more about my war.

Good on you.

Greetings Robert, I read your book for the first time when I flew helicopters in the SADF, I ended up on Airbusses internationally ( not sure how that happened! ) But your book was an inspiration during my training, my advice to any youngster wanting to fly helicopters in the military, is to read your book and then decide, keep well, Tod Burns

Read Chickenhawk a few years back and was so moved by it. Always been fascinated by the Vietnam experience of ordinary folk thrown into an unbelievably terrible conflict. Also by the reaction of the US public to returning vets. Wish you well my friend - I feel that I know you.
