I finished reading the 2005 release of "Chickenhawk". Its a very good book about the Vietnam war. Your book along with others about the Vietnam war helps to show how the war was mismanaged by LBJ and Westmoreland.

Mr. Mason,

Fantastic Story! I am glad to hear Patience stuck with you, God Bless her!

I had a very good friend who was a Helicopter Medic in '71 and '72 I believe. He said many of the same things you did.

The afterward is great also.

How can I find a copy of "Flightline: The Army Helicopter Pilots of Vietnam"

I woud love to see this.

Thank you for your courage under fire. You are a true man.

Dear Bob,
Phenomenal book. Your bravery and humility can not be described in words. I couldn't put the book down and was absolutely stunned by what you had to deal with on a daily basis. Thank you for your selfless service and telling this phenomenal story. It's a tragedy that you had to deal with the things that you did when you returned to the States- shame on our government for not treating our vets with the respect they deserve.
Best regards,
Thomas Gerecs, CFI

Yep, 25 years after you wrote Chickenhawk I read it in a couple of days. Excellent! Written from the heart and involving enough that I had to find out what happen to you afterwards - and now I know! What shocks me is not that you have managed to get your life back on track but that you wrote Weapon! I read that years ago! Stiil have it and read it again recently. Bob, all I can say is you are a great achiever and worthy of all the praise. And no I don't fly but I've had lessons in a R22.

Bob,
I just finished reading "Chickenhawk". I have lost track of how many times I have read it. I have given away and loaned quite a few copies. I was in Pleiku, Dak To, An Khe, Cheo Reo area '68-'69 as a combat engineer. Reading your book feels like going home. Thanks for your service and writing that book. I also have "Back in the World". I would love to play you a game of chess through e-mail.

Hi Bob - How's it going?, I hope you'll take up phil connolly's offer of a trip in his Huey 509 ex 129th AHC in the U.K. You'll be treated like royalty by phil. I still haven't been able to see it at an airshow. I missed seeing it when he brought 509 up to the 2005 RAF Leuchars Airshow, I didn't know about it then.

Hi Bob. Great book, really fine piece of work. I've read it a week ago and I'm still strong impressed. I still can't get Chcikenhawk: back in the world, but I'm strongly consider that I finally collect this book to my private libary. Best from Chickenhawk for me: real face of war, real face of fear and stupidity of war showed to the world. Sorry for my English.
Best Wishes For You and Patience

Hi Bob.
I recently read your book and have friends who are fans also. Most of us ex Military.
I write to ask if you had considered making a movie of Chickenhawk. My friends & I believe it would be a huge success. In fact we would love to be involved if the chance arose. Finally after reading the sad ending to Chickenhawk, it is a delight to see that you and Patience are back on top of life.
I wish you both all the very best.
Cheers and kind regards.

Bob,

I ran out of space on the last note . . what I was going to say was: Have you thought about a sequel to Weapon and Solo? I got quite attached to Solo! The only technical issue I think was the speed of mind transfer out of the original body - a bit of licence there I guess . .

Hope you are all well!

Regards,

Phil.

Bob, some years I came across weapon (paperback) by accident at a second hand bookshop. I thought it looked interesting so I bought it. I liked it so much I found a hard cover version and also hard cover copies of Solo and then Chickenhawk. I really liked all of them. I always meant to wirte to you but of course never got around to it. I just thought of the books again and decided to look on the web to see if I could find an address for you. So finding this site was very convenient. tbc

Hi Bob,
Twenty years ago you gave me notes on my novel, which you compared to William Kennedy's IRONWEED. Anyhow, we partied at Padgett's and I'm hoping you might write a blurb for my new book, SKIN OF SUNSET. Scottish novelist A.L. Kennedy is on board -- her latest, DAY, is about a WWII pilot -- so you'll have company. Also, it's dedicated to Harry Crews. No worries if you don't remember me; you took me seriously when I was young and that debt can't be paid. Cheers! dj
