I have rad and re-read chickenhawk so many times. Now that I am training to fly helicopters comercially I am amazing in the skills that pilots used during the war. Just hovewring alone is hard enough let alone being shot at. Thank you for bringing a little insight into a life of someone that thankfully wasn;t here to see the affects of flying in those circumstances. I have had a huge difficulty in getting a copy of your next book however I am looking forward to reading it. Thank you

Gday Bob!
I just put down your first book yesterday. I thank you for chickenhawk and amazing work that has gone into bringing it up. I have never seen the war from such close quarters. As all your readers, I was shocked at the how things ended up. All the best. Love your work!

Bob: I was at a used book store in Chiang Mai when I found a battered old copy of "Chickenhawk" and could not put it down. Now I am finishing the sequel and I wanted you to know how enriched I have been by your writing, even apart from the Vietnam element. I think both of these books will be remembered far in the future as some of the most representative (and least pretentious) writing about their respective time periods. Your brutal honesty and humor comes through on every page. Awesome work.

Dear Mr Mason,
I really enjoyed Chickenhawk, unfortunately its Polish translation was not ideal, but it only encourages me to read it in English.

This book has given me many deep reflexions. Thank for your contribution to the world literature.
My cousin has been a Polish pilot of a Hind chopper in Iraq and Afghanistan and now I know a bit more about pilots' way of life and possible feelings.

Best wishes from Poland!

I would like to say how much I enjoyed Chickenhawk. It is an extraordinary book, in the original sense of that word. The machines you flew, invented before I was born, are amazing enough - I'd love to have the chance to fly a "Huey". But your account of your experiences is exceptionally well told. Simple and yet utterly compelling. I wish you and your family the best of luck for the future

Hi Bob

Just moved into new house and no TV set up yet so was digging through books and found Chickenhawk. Read it once more (three times now) and still enjoyed every page. With less than 500 hours on helicopters in total i still readed it open mouthed and am amazed at the hours/missions and actions you guys got in to! Hope all well with you and family. regards Steve.

I grew up in the erea of the first tv war my dad was a Navy man in Korea we always were taught to appreciate our country and its soldiers. Many older brothers did not return. I rember the stars in the windows they still make me very emotional. God bless the ones that did. Great Book ! Any chance of a movie ? You Deserve it. Good luck

Dear Robert,
I had heard about your book for years and when I saw a copy in an airport newsagent a week ago I just had to buy it. It has to be the most honest and thought provoking books I've ever read. I thank you for sharing your life with me and the world and for teaching me so much about the history and facts of the Vietnam that I never realised. You're a true hero mate!!

Hi Bob,

see? Even a "frog: living in Singapore got interested in your writings. Of course read a lot of stuff about the French war, but your book and style are a real must. I thought your mentionning of the "cola girl" really touching.. Did you by any chance get to know whta happened to her? I know I sound really pathetic, but the earring present part was really touching.

All the best to you my friend.
Kind Regards
Angel (I am a MR so pls don't call me Miss, ok?!!)

I really enjoyed your book (Chickenhawk) and have since gone
on to read Firebirds and soon Apache Rising (both Vietnam Heli
books as you probably know). A friend and myself hope to
acquire, restore, and fly a Huey someday (if we can find one).
God bless you.
