Dear Mr. Mason:

I first read this book while deployed in the marines during the 80's, and just found it again on audio books, and listened to it again. I must thank you for such a well written piece of history. Thank you for your perseverance in getting this out to us. I was riveted by the last few sentences. Thank you Sir, for your service, your sacrifice, and for your diligence. God Bless You, and Semper Fi!! Now I just have to find the rest of your books to feed my mp3 player!!

Dear Mr Mason, I read mainly non fiction;

And I have just finished reading Chickenhawk.

I've read a lot of books about war, but yours is something
special. I think it's special because you are clearly a naturally
gifted writer.

I hope you are well and happy.

Thank you for writing such a great and life changing book.

Came across Chickenhawk and just finished it... I'm too young to remember Vietnam, but your book revealed a lot.
Thanks.

I bought Chickenhawk in Toronto for $12.99 around 1985. The book stayed with me and I thought of you often.. Thanks for your honesty. It was a great read and so was Back In The World. Regards, Hugh

Having just started flying heli's, was given a copy of your book by a mate. Thank you for sharing your experiences which are remarkable to say the least. We all want to look back on our lives and feel that we have done something extraordinary, you have achieved that. I had the great opportunity to get a ride in a Huey recently and after reading your book can only appreciate that more. Thank you.

I just finished reading Chickenhawk and I wanted to thank
you for your courage to write such an honest piece. I've read
quite a lot of books on Vietnam and this was easily one of the
best books I have ever read.

Both of my grandfathers were combat veterans of WWII and I
often wonder if I could have ever had the courage to do what
you and my grandparents did if I was in the same position so I
have nothing but the deepest respect.

Bob,

Thanks for Chickenhawk. I enjoyed it.

In 2008 I accomapied my father to Vietnam, where he served as an engineer from 1966-1969

To be able to connect to the places he served and hear the stories real-time was one of the greatest times of my life and definitely brought us closer.

Have you ever been back to Vietnam?

His return truly helped him make peace.

Thanks for the great read Bob, (chicken hawk) I was an Australtian Army rifleman who served in Vietnam in 1971, I didn't do the things you did, however i saw the results of war, as well rode plenty of Huey's, your interprutation of the war was correct, I know that's of little comfort to you or any of the others who went, I hope you are doing well now and live a very log time. Thanks for sharing your experiences with allthe people who have read your book. Regards Geoff

I flew helicopters in the central highlands of Viet
Nam as did Mr. Mason in 71-72. Everyone of us
who saw combat was a casualty, inside and out, after
returning home. The first time, just a few years ago,
that a Viet Nam vet welcomed me home I broke down
in tears and was comforted by him. Thanks for writing
such a poignant book for all of us who were there and
those who saw through your eyes what it was like.
Pete

Mr. Mason,
I just finished reading Chickenhawk.
You have told the story of so many, so well.
You are indeed a hero.
