Just finished reading Chickenhawk and am still stunned by your vivid narration of what you and your buddies have lived through. Thanks for writing it down and share it with the rest of us. I really hope your are sleeping better after all this years and am happy for you that Patience and you were still holding together. All the best to both of you!

Your book may have saved my life, back in the summer of 1989. I was training at Fort Irwin and had just finished reading your book. I loved to ride in helicopters and took every opportunity, but after reading your book I vowed never to ride in a helicopter again unless it was absolutely necessary. That night we lost an entire black hawk crew except for the door gunner.

Just checked your book, Chickenhawk out of the prison where I'm a guard. It was an amazing revelation! I was in the Corps back in '79-'83 where I was a CH-46 crewman. Spent 6 months flying missions over Beirut in '82. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! Especially the ugly, hard to share ones.

Bob,
I've read Chickenhawk at least twice, cover to cover. But I just keep it out all the time, pick it up and start reading when I feel like it. I recently bought it as a birthday present for a friend and read the Afterword that isnt in my old copy. I am now 42 and back in school. I took a history class on Vietnam last semester. We had two Vietnam vets in to talk to us. I learned a lot from them and the class. Anyway, thank you very much for writing your book. Dennis Loucks

My husband Jeff and I just finished reading Chickenhawk.Thank you for writing it and for your honesty. We were both born in 1962, so we don't remember much about The Vietnam War. Jeff was an officer in the Marines in the First Gulf War and my brother lost a battle with cancer after he served in the Army in the First Gulf War. I felt a great sense of pride when I read your story. Thank you for your service to our country and for writing about it. We both feel like we learned so much from you.

Hi Bob,

I had told you to watch out for my article in the February
Rotor & Wing...they were trying to get it into their Rotorcraft
Report but have decided to run it as a full feature in March
instead. I hope you'll enjoy reading about my friend from the
227th in Lai Khe.

An incredible story, and one that I have passed on to many of my friends.

It really does sum up what an insane world we live in. I'm not ashamed to say it brought a tear to my eye on more than one occasion.

It is so important that the future generations read such accounts so they can see the truth behind these pointless wars.

Great photography too Bob.

Few books have ever made such an impression on me. I even recommended it to Mexican fans. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/page s/The-Mexican-Horse-Thief/287374932716?r ef=ts

Just finished reading Chickenhawk again. (3rd time). Still moved by what you describe and can only try to imagine some of the stuff you don't tell us about. I can't begin to describe the respect I have for all you guys who went to Vietnam. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us and I hope life has improved for you.

I read Chickenhawk maybe 20 years ago or so. To this day, it is still my favorite book about the Vietnam era. I almost felt like I was up there with you feeling your emotions and fears. The bravery you showed putting your life on the line for others was just awe inspiring to me. No matter what you do for the rest of your life, you have already made a difference in this world. To those you saved and to those of us you shared your experiences with. What a legacy to have.
